Jen and I often take Socrates (the big parrot, for those not in the know) out to dinners, if we're going somewhere with outside seating. He LOVES to see people!
Here's an average exchange between him and strangers.
Soc: Hi! Person: Oh! What a beautiful bird! Soc: Hiiiii! Person: Does it talk?
We just shake our heads and grin when they walk away. It reminds us of how sometimes people completely ignore kids, even when the kids actually do have something exciting and nifty to show them, just because they're used to the kids' imput being irrelevant.
Now, not having been there.. but I have a really hard time understanding Soc. If you and Jen weren't around to give me clues as to what's going on, I don't think I'd have ever understood him.
It is hard to understand him on the long things (How are you doing?) BUT, I think that "Hi" is pretty clear with him. Even the first time I ever encountered him, in the back of a bird store, I could understand his "I LOVE you!"
